Budget laptop12/25/2023 The stock machine comes with one battery, but it has space for an additional one, and these are relatively inexpensive as laptop batteries go. To get the whole laptop experience, you must add an optional keyboard, and it will also need other optional items added before it is truly ready for deployment. Drop-tested to 4ft (1.2m), it can handle temperatures up to 63C and is an IP-65-rated tablet that protects the ports against ingress from dust and water. Read our full Dell Latitude 5430 Rugged Laptop review Best rugged laptop for brightnessĭell makes a number of highly rugged laptops, and the 7230 is one of the latest that uses a modern Intel platform. Although the Latitude 5430 has a 53.5 Whr battery, you can add an additional battery for extra power and hot-swap batteries for extended usage. While the base model is more powerful enough for most tasks, Dell allows you to fully configure this rugged laptop with more RAM, storage, additional ports, and even Nvidia T500 discrete graphics to handle more demanding workloads.Ī privacy shutter prevents third parties from spying through your webcam, while an optional security package adds a fingerprint reader, a Smartcard reader, and a contactless Smartcard reader. Unlike other rugged laptops, which are less subtle due to their use of aluminum, this device is all black with a carbon fiber lid.Ī rigid handle makes the Latitude 5430 easy to carry, and the device sports several certifications, including Mil-Spec 810H and IP53. With its easel-like display, this is a 2-in-1 laptop that could be better suited to illustrators or graphic designers, though it’s a shame the Surface Pen stylus isn’t included in the box.The Latitude 5430 is a semi-rugged laptop with a sleek design that can be outfitted with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. With a starting price of AU$2,549, it’s also a very expensive option. If you were hoping for a 2-in-1 that can handle video editing or heavy coding with ease, this may not be the best choice for you. Instead, it opted for Intel’s 11th-gen processors, with the option of either an i5-11300H or a i7-11370H CPU. While we love this device, we do wish Microsoft had installed more powerful hardware. Or, you can lie it completely flat like a tablet. In some way, it folds into itself, and leaves room for the trackpad (should you want it). Instead of folding back into a shape similar to a tent – as with many 2-in-1s from Dell, HP, Lenovo and others – this Microsoft device feels a little more like an easel. The Surface Laptop Studio is one of the most compelling laptop’s in Microsoft’s history, because of its unique take on the 2-in-1 device. While Razer is known for flashy RGB, the brand has shown some restraint in this department when it comes to the keys, which is good news in our book. Its form factor is as tight and compact as ever, the finish is gorgeous and the keyboard is comfortable. If you can forgive the poor battery life, there’s lots to love about the 2022 Razer Blade 15. If we had to guess, we’d say this drop in juice is likely caused by the power-hungry 12th-gen Intel chips. In our own testing, it lasted just two hours and 49 minutes, which is significantly less than what the previous Razer Blade 15 (2021) achieved, which was six hours and 16 minutes. Keep in mind that while gaming performance is outstanding, it comes at the cost of battery life, which is practically non-existent. It’s this versatility, in part, that makes it our favourite gaming machine. There are various configurations of this device, with graphics card options from the Nvidia RTX 30 series, and 12th-gen Intel processors. The Razer Blade 15 sits at the top of our best gaming laptops guide, and as far as we’re concerned, it leads the pack in performance. Read our full Apple MacBook Air (M2, 2022) review The powerful M2 silicon inside the MacBook Air gives you excellent performance, and we managed to stretch out 16 hours of battery life in our own testing. The Liquid Retina display also delivers a brighter screen of 500 nits, up from 400 nits in the 2020 model. In fact, it’s only AU$100 less than the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022).īut let’s talk about the highlights – there’s a larger 13.6-inch screen (up from 13.3-inches), and that’s largely thanks to slimmer bezels. That’s the kind of cost we’d expect for a MacBook Pro rather than the entry-level MacBook Air. While these upgrades are fantastic, Apple’s 2022 MacBook Air also came with a much higher price tag, starting at AU$1,899. It builds on the success of Apple’s 2020 MacBook Air, adding an updated design, better performance and a larger, brighter screen. The MacBook Air (M2, 2022) gets the #1 spot in our guide to the best laptops in Australia, so naturally, it’s also our favourite Apple machine.
